Instagram Crush - Phillippa Stanton

Hello my lovely readers! I know it's been a little while since I've shared some yummy art or photography to enjoy but I'm here to make up for it with a delicious sampling of work from the incredibly talented Instagram icon and Synesthetic Artist - Phillippa Stanton.Wondering what a Synesthetic Artist is? Here's how it is described on her website:

"Being Synesthetic means that Philippa can see sound, taste and smell in shape, colour and texture, allowing her to create unique portraits of people’s voices, food and drink."

So cool right? I can see this gift reflected in her photography for sure.

Her photography and short videos make my heart pitter patter and I often let out an audible sigh. Her gorgeous shots embody stunning color, interiors of her fairytale cottage (in Brighton, England of course), delightful styling and her adorable siamese kitty. Her images make you want to step inside her world and stay...forever.

You must watch the precious videos she creates. They are magical moments of stillness and beauty.

Like this one... [vimeo 182917004 w=640 h=640]

Ok...I'll stop gushing. Just enjoy these and go visit her feed on Instagram.

Aren't they just beautiful? So poetic in the way she arranges each item, each petal and always a steaming cup of tea! She truly shows us how beauty exists all around us. In our belongings, our family table, out our window - we only need to take the time to see it.

Now, go take a minute for yourself. Breath in the beauty in your life. You deserve it.

I hope you enjoyed.

Horse Art & beautiful interiors

Happy Friday my friends!

For the past couple of days, the sun has been out for us here in Portland and we couldn't be more pleased! Sunshine, daffodils and pink blossoming trees! Sigh...Spring is almost here!

Along with the flowers, I've also been completely delighted by the artwork coming out of the first session of my online Mixed Media workshop - Spirit Horse!  Such beautiful expressive work right?! Some of my students are painting horses for the first time! It's so exciting to see that! Other's are very experienced equine artists who are allowing themselves to loosen up and joyously paint their hearts out in this new and freeing way!

Artists from top left, Mayrse Perdriat, Jane Alice Strand, Patti Sandham, Denise Milledge, Deb Weiers

Check it out! Registration is now open for the second session of this class! Click below to join us!

This class has brought me so much joy, since I for one, had never allowed myself the pleasure of painting horses - why? -  because I simply believed I couldn't do it! I pushed through that limiting belief and painted bold, beautiful horses that made my heart happy!

Here are a few of my pieces! I took the liberty of putting them into beautiful rooms digitally so you could get a feel for them! How gorgeous is this first room by Danielle Oakley? She's one talented lady!

These three colorful girls I titled -"The Three Graces"  - Such a fun and playful piece that I loved creating!

{Interior Design by Danielle Oakley}

This one is called "Beloved" and is glimmering with gold leaf. It's inspired by the work of Erica Nordean - an amazing equine artist! This one was also a delight to create. Working large was expansive for me and really helped me express the horse!

And here is my Painted Horse Collage you may recognize from the Sprit Horse promo! He looks quite handsome in this room I think!

Thanks for taking a peek at my horse art. I hope you have a gorgeous weekend! Happy creating!

Inspiration Vintage Magazine

Hello all! How's your Monday going? We are getting crazy wind and rain here! So, I've been puttering around the house, cleaning, reading and avoiding my artwork. I decided I needed a little space from it all. I must give a huge "THANK YOU" to you sweet readers that left such encouraging and understanding comments. Your words truly touched me and were extremely comforting!

A beautiful and exciting distraction came along last week:  the latest issue of Inspiration Vintage magazine, which I had the honor of contributing to! This issue is bursting with stunning pictures, delicious recipes and loads of vintage beauty! Check it out here.

My article is about my love of vintage ephemera, antique books and French perfume labels! I had a blast photographing some of my pretty old things.  Of course, not all of the images made the cut but I thought I would share them with you...

I'm dreaming of...

Hi there. How's life treating you? We are back into the swing of school around here and I'm trying to get organized and make the most of each day. Not easy. I often find myself being pulled in so many directions that I get overwhelmed. So, I retreat into my own little daydreams. Highly productive. Not. We have been renting a beautiful home in a fabulous neighborhood but it's been three years and I'm getting itchy feet! Growing up, I lived in 10 different houses and two countries (the U.S. & Australia). When Chris and I got together, we moved 5 times in 4 years. Finally, we settled in Portland and have lived here for almost 11 years. No wonder I'm getting wanderlust!

Moving is in my blood and I'm totally dreaming of us buying a large piece of land and building a sweet farmhouse. I want a big porch, an old barn for my art studio, chickens (why not?) and a large, white kitchen, where I would bake bread and make delicious meals. Realistic? Probably not, I don't even bake - but wow, does it sound good to me right now. I'm being drawn to wide open spaces, quiet, solitude, a slower pace. A place to focus and create. Sometimes life just feels so noisy. Know what I mean?

So in my procrastination, I pulled my favorite farmhouse images from my Pinterest board to share my vision with you...

Have a beautiful afternoon.

Flowering Branches

We've been a having a lot of rain lately and well...honestly... it's getting a little tiresome but I am taking great pleasure in witnessing the slow bloom of all the flowering trees. Dogwoods, cherry blossoms, camellias. I'll take them! Give me some brightness and beauty amidst the gray! This weekend, I plan on going out into the garden and bringing in some of these gorgeous flowering branches. They make the most beautiful display. Inexpensive, dramatic and inspiring you can't help but want them in your home. Check out these gorgeous images via Style and Home.com...

Don't you love the deep shades of navy, teal and amethyst and how they contrast against the lightness of the blooms? So lovely!

What spring blossoms are you enjoying where you are?

Pretty Rooms: Touches of Pale Pink

I'm not typically a pink girl. I don't often wear the color nor decorate with it...but...I really do love, love, love the touches of palest pink in these gorgeous rooms.

So pretty right? It's amazing how this color instantly softens a room and adds such a feminine touch. I may be a pink girl after all...

What about you - do you like this shade?

Hope your week if off to a good start! The sun is shining here so that is making me smile...especially when it's supposed to pour the rest of the week.

I heart this space.

Happy Thursday...Friday is almost here. I couldn't wait to post pics of this simply stunning living and dining room! This masterpiece was created by The Brooklyn Home Company. They have some serious talent. Enjoy this little peek inside one of their projects but to see more check out their portfolio.

If a gorgeous French woman married a famous explorer this is what their house would look like...

To me, it's such a unique and lovely blend. Rustic and elegant. Refined but yet, natural. It's rare I see a room where I love every element! I love the dark leather chair paired with the light linen couch. I love the naturalist prints and wildlife elements. I love the cream moldings and those mirrors. Oh man, those mirrors make me crazy. I love the way the glass and brass tables add a touch of sparkle and light. I could go on and on...and I do...

I seriously love this place, I mean how perfect is that gorgeous French chair next to the rustic stump table?  And all the crystal decanters, they add such glamor...don't even get me started on the wide plank, mocha wood floors...

The dining is also so lovely. The artwork is playful without being over the top and I want those chairs and the bench and the table.

You know what, why don't I just move in?

Excuse the rambling...I am just so struck by this place.

Okay, deep breath...

What are your favorite design styles?

Spring Decorating via Skona hem

Last Monday, I featured a Scandinavian designer and it looks like, quite by accident (well almost), I am back in the land of Swedish goodness. I'm sure many of you love the Swedish magazine, Skona hem...what's not to love? If you haven't checked it out...you should. Can't understand a word but the images are breathtaking!

I was drawn to this article about re-decorating for Spring, using what you have. I love the creative ideas and the colors are so fresh!

How gorgeous is this floral head board? It's made from MDF board and covered with fabric! Instant garden in your bedroom!

Simple Ikea lights and glass shelves make the blooming background functional.

This whimsical arrangement was made using wire and colored paper. So pretty and that cobalt blue paint is rather stunning!

Little vintage doorknobs make for an instant jewelry display...

and this re-finished vintage chair couldn't have more personality!

Remember to use Google Translate if you actually want to understand this fabulous magazine. I'm seriously considering learning Swedish.

Hope your Monday is going smoothly!

Designer Love: Lisa Bengtsson

I'm not sure why Scandinavian designers are so darn fabulous...but they are. There's no denying it. One of my favorites is the very talented Lisa Bengtsson. Her bold, fearless textiles are amazing! Incorporating a myriad of patterns and vintage images is no easy feat, but Lisa masters it beautifully. I have been drooling over her work via her website. Definitely worth checking out, but be warned, unless you are fluent in Swedish, you won't be able to understand a word. Using my little friend, Google Translate, helps me cheat.

Eclectic and glamorous, just one of her pillows in your favorite chair is sure to be a conversation starter and guess what? You can buy her gorgeous designs here in the US via Huset! (My new fav online shop).

Thank you Scandinavia! We love you!

Happy Shopping!

Hints of Spring by Suzanne Kasler

After living in Portland for eight years, you come to realize that, at times, January and February flirt with Spring like conditions...but, like always, the rain has resumed. As the gray closes in, I found myself drawn to the lovely interiors created by Suzanne Kasler. I really love the soft, pastel hues in these rooms...reminding me of the first blooms of Spring...

So soothing to the eye...I could look at her rooms all day - imagine living in one! I wish!

To view her amazing portfolio of work check out her site.

Hope you are seeing signs of Spring where you are!

Dreamy Whites - a new blog to love

Hello there. I hope your Sunday has been relaxing. I just discovered a new blog - Dreamy Whites - via Houzz (an online interior design source), that I'm completely in love with. Maria is the author of this delightful blog and is one talented lady!  She magically finds time to juggle five kids, a husband and a beautiful ranch home while expressing herself creatively through interior design, photography and graphic design! Can you say Super Woman?

Oh, and her home is being featured in this book, by Fifi O'Neill (who also has an amazing blog) ! Just added it to my wishlist!

Her style, photography and writing resonated with me...so I had to share! Check out these pics of her lovely home...

Gorgeous right!? Her rooms feel so dreamy and romantic. One day I hope my home can be this enchanting!

Wall Wonders

I've got these big blank walls in my house. Still. It's sad, really. I know I should be brave but I'm scared of hanging the wrong thing. Big...I need big, expensive, beautiful artwork - at least that's what I keep telling myself.

"I'm so boring!"  the walls seem to scream at me.

Okay, walls. You win. I will fix your blankness. But first, I need inspiration!

Wow, I feel so much better! I love all these ideas and I really LOVE that I don't need to run out and buy huge pieces of artwork. This curated, collaged look is much more interesting! How cute are those little plates floating up from that vintage stove?

Oh and it's not out yet, but I've added this book to my Amazon wish-list!

Are your walls blank too? I hope this gave you some ideas! If you love it, hang it up! A card, a poster, a gorgeous tag, a beautiful image from your favorite magazine...whatever. Your walls can be your very own composition! Your very own gallery! Have fun with it!

I'm going to be working on my blank walls and I will share my "installations" once they are up!

Have a inspired Friday!

I heart Canvas

Just discovered a new home design store named Canvas, that opened in New York City's SoHo neighborhood. Their goods are stunning. Simple, modern and timeless. Here's the big plus - their items are sustainable, ethically sourced and many are created by artisans in developing countries.  Canvas' founder, Andrew Corrie, sits on the Aid to Artisans Board  - an amazing non-profit organization leading a handmade revolution, while supporting artists and strengthening communities around the world! You gotta love that.

Check out the eye candy...

I need this chair. Seriously, I do.

So beautiful, right? And good for the planet! It's a win-win!

Cabin Couture

I've always been a sucker for a cozy cabin in the winter...but this home takes it to a whole new level and I'm all for it! Check out this sumptuous space - a lovely balance between rustic and elegant.

Don't you love those shots of royal purple? I do.

Bundle me up...I don't care how cold it is, I'm going to sit out here and drink wine!

I want that bed and that chaise...

Pure brilliance here - these bunk beds are perfect for the kids.

And of course after being a snow bunny all day, you'll need to defrost in this stunning tub.

Don't you wish you could spend your winter days in this space? Yum.

Okay...well, I have a sick husband and a hungry daughter so I best get back to my day job. Hope you enjoyed this beautiful home.

Inspired by Sibella Court

Hi Friends! Hope you had a decent Monday. Ours was very rainy but a trip to the antique stores with a dear friend made it a perfect day! You may have seen on my other blog, that I posted a curated collection of images by Sibella Court. Well, her book - Etcetera: Creating Beautiful Interiors with the things you love - arrived and I couldn't help but take pictures of it. It's so beautiful!!

{click on images to view larger}

Really, you must have this book. It's a treasure trove of inspiration. I promise.

Have a lovely Tuesday!

Love your desk

My desk has been bothering me. It was full of lovely things but it felt messy and unorganized...sound familiar?

Something had to be done.

While Grace painted outside, I cleared off the entire surface and started over.

I knew the vintage chalk board that I found antiquing needed to hold court as my inspiration board, so that went up first. With a little time and lots of moving objects around, it slowly fell into place.

I'm especially fond of my sting of inspirational images...thanks to Artful Blogging and Boho magazine.

Tomorrow I have to clean off the blackboard...it has far too much math on it for my taste. I just noticed this in the pictures.

I think some lovely poetry would do nicely.

How's your desk looking? Does it need some love?

Ivy

White lilacs, black table

Our little breakfast nook is coming together. The new table and chairs we ordered look lovely and a crystal pitcher filled with white lilacs makes me smile each time I pass by. Still need a rug...but one thing at a time right? At least we have somewhere to sit now...

Put a fresh bouquet of flowers on your table. It is sure to brighten your day.

Dreamy Blue Bedrooms

Now, I'm not typically a blue gal when it comes to decor. But lately... I've been drawn to this soft, moody color. I adore the layering of blue tones, the rich textures and added sparkle via glass, crystal & mirrors. So glamorous... These beautiful bedrooms soothe the eyes don't they?
