A Creative Journey Through the Highlands

I invite you to join me for a once-in-a-lifetime art retreat inspired by the romance, beauty, and storytelling of Outlander. Together we’ll travel through historic Edinburgh, the mystical Highlands, and the dreamlike Isle of Skye, creating art rooted in emotion, myth, and place.

We’ll blend portraiture, landscape, and visual storytelling, using watercolor, charcoal, pastel, ink, and collage to capture both the outer landscapes of Scotland and the inner landscapes of memory and imagination.

This retreat is designed for artists and dreamers alike, no previous experience necessary just a love of beauty, story, and creative exploration.

Your 10 days will be a rich balance of studio time, cultural excursions, and restorative moments to rest, reflect, and connect.

We’ll move slowly and intentionally through each project, taking inspiration from the ever-changing skies and the timeless rhythm of the land.

You’ll learn how to:

• Create watercolor landscape studies inspired by dramatic Highland light and texture

• Develop art journaling and herbology pages, echoing Claire’s love of nature and healing

• Explore expressive portrait studies of Claire and Jamie in charcoal and pastel (no experience needed!)

• Build mixed media storytelling collages inspired by Celtic myth and Outlander lore

• Practice daily creative rituals, sketching, journaling, and reflective layering

• Fill your sketchbook with a personal record of your journey

We’ll create beside roaring fires, surrounded by kindred creatives and the wild beauty of Scotland. These days are designed to be both nourishing and inspiring, a time to refill your creative well.

Edinburgh: Stones & Stories

We begin in the heart of Edinburgh, where cobblestone closes and castle spires rise in the golden autumn light. Here, Outlander comes alive : Bakehouse Close, Holyrood Palace, and the elegant Georgian New Town. You’ll sketch the city’s layers of history, wander its streets, and dine together in warmth and laughter.

The Scottish Highlands: Land of Legend and Lineage

From Edinburgh, we travel north through the Highlands, a place of mist, memory, and myth. We’ll visit Lallybroch, Culloden, Inverness, and ancient stone circles.

The Isle of Skye: Mist & Myth

Skye is the edge of the known world, where mountains rise from the sea and legends whisper through the wind. We’ll visit the Fairy Pools, sketch along the cliffs and harbors, and let the shifting light guide our watercolor studies.

Ledgowan Lodge – Hearth & Highland Heart

Our home for the week is the beautiful Ledgowan Lodge, a Georgian hunting estate nestled among the hills of Wester Ross. This historic property is all ours, a warm, welcoming space filled with fireplaces, gathering rooms, and sweeping Highland views.

We’ll rest, create, and share meals prepared with care, surrounded by the peace and majesty of the Scottish landscape.

Ledgowan Lodge

We’ll rest, create, and share meals prepared with care, surrounded by the peace and majesty of the Scottish landscape.

Edinburgh Townhouse
For our first two nights, we’ll stay in a graceful Georgian townhouse in the heart of Edinburgh—a charming base to rest, sketch, and begin our adventure.

Private Travel

We’ll journey together in a private mini coach, designed for comfort and conversation. Along the way, we’ll enjoy scenic drives through rolling hills, glens, and quiet villages—with plenty of time for sketching stops, photo breaks, and maybe a few Tunnock’s Tea Cakes along the way.

What’s Included

• Ten nights of single or shared accommodations in historic, beautiful dwellings

• Ten days of art, exploration, and creative connection

• All breakfasts, some lunches, daily aperitif hour with charcuterie, and all dinners
