Instagram Crush - Phillippa Stanton

Hello my lovely readers! I know it's been a little while since I've shared some yummy art or photography to enjoy but I'm here to make up for it with a delicious sampling of work from the incredibly talented Instagram icon and Synesthetic Artist - Phillippa Stanton.Wondering what a Synesthetic Artist is? Here's how it is described on her website:

"Being Synesthetic means that Philippa can see sound, taste and smell in shape, colour and texture, allowing her to create unique portraits of people’s voices, food and drink."

So cool right? I can see this gift reflected in her photography for sure.

Her photography and short videos make my heart pitter patter and I often let out an audible sigh. Her gorgeous shots embody stunning color, interiors of her fairytale cottage (in Brighton, England of course), delightful styling and her adorable siamese kitty. Her images make you want to step inside her world and stay...forever.

You must watch the precious videos she creates. They are magical moments of stillness and beauty.

Like this one... [vimeo 182917004 w=640 h=640]

Ok...I'll stop gushing. Just enjoy these and go visit her feed on Instagram.

Aren't they just beautiful? So poetic in the way she arranges each item, each petal and always a steaming cup of tea! She truly shows us how beauty exists all around us. In our belongings, our family table, out our window - we only need to take the time to see it.

Now, go take a minute for yourself. Breath in the beauty in your life. You deserve it.

I hope you enjoyed.

With love and gratitude,

Art to Adore: Maria Pace-Wynters

Hi there! How is everyone!? Been uber busy around here with family visitors, summer camps and filming for my latest online Art classes!

However, amongst the chaos I try to make time to be quiet and still, so I can reflect on how this amazing life is unfolding. (I'm trying to learn how to meditate - not easy for me!)

One of the other things I absolutely love to do to unwind is to peruse Pinterest and Instagram for new art to love on. My latest ART crush is on the work of the amazingly talented, mixed media artist - Maria Pace-Wynters.

Gah!! Her work is just drop dead gorgeous. Vibrant colors, lyrical line work and angelic faces! Here have a look...

She also has a lovely Etsy shop! I just HAD to acquire a few of her prints!

Okay lovelies...gotta get back to work! Hope you enjoyed looking at these! So very inspiring!

Much love to you all.

Art Journaling : Brené Brown Class

Hi there! How's life? Things have been going well here and I've been diligently working on my Brené Brown art journal homework from the Oprah life class. Following along with the book has been truly life changing. The messages within have been resonating deeply with me as I become aware of my own issues with perfection, shame and self-worth - pretty heavy, I know. BUT so inspiring and refreshing at the same time! I've had several "ah-ha" moments that made me smile while other pages brought on the tears. One huge epiphany I experienced, was when I realized the cause of my recent creativity block. It wasn't because my creative juices ran dry or I ran out of inspiration...it was because I was focusing on attaining approval rather than just being authentic. I wasn't creating for me. I was creating for others and seeking praise. All of sudden, the likes on Facebook didn't make me feel good anymore, the hearts on Instagram didn't mean anything. I felt numb. So I stopped making art. Joy was replaced with doubt.  Understanding why this happened has brought me great clarity.

Working in my very first art journal has renewed my creativity and given me the chance to further digest the information in the book. I had promised to share some of the pages with you...so here they are...

I thought that the first assignment was very appropriate. That scary first white page was dedicated to giving yourself permission.

art journal2

Next, we had to take pictures of ourselves with our "Pledge" written on our hand - "I'm imperfect and I'm ENOUGH!" Love that.

artjournal6

artjournal7

The class went on to explore the word - COURAGE and it's original meaning: to tell the story of who you are with your whole heart. Then we listed the people in our lives that we trust and share our story with. We placed this list in the center of our heart. I wrote the word "Thank You" on my list to remind myself to be eternally grateful to these special people.

artjournal4

Then we were assigned to find a photo that captures our "true self" and write about who we see, what makes this person light up and how we need to treat her. Loved how this exercise made me feel.

artjournal5

This last collage kinda just happened...the inside of the journal cover needed some art! :)

art journal1

As I mentioned, I've never art journaled before and I'm really loving it! I'm getting a little braver with my materials and exploring new ways to blend words and images.

Have you ever kept an art journal? If you do, I would love to hear how you like to use it.

Hope your week is full of inspiration.

A Creative Weekend away...

Hello there! How is life treating you this week? Besides a pesky summer cold, I'm doing quite well and I'm so thankful that last weekend I got to get away with a dear friend for a creative retreat! We stayed at the sweetest cottage in the quaint Oregon beach town of Manzanita. Here are some shots via my Instagram... Screen Shot 2013-07-24 at 4.01.53 PM

This cottage doesn't get any cuter right? It is the perfect place for a beach getaway.

Mornings (sans kids) were blissfully quiet and peaceful - sipping coffee, reading magazines and writing in my journal. Here is Katie enjoying a fav cooking mag.

After we had substantial amounts of coffee we would move outside into the "garage" which is really an amazing outbuilding that my friend Candace converted into a charming dining hall. Strung with lights and adorned with artwork, old wine bottles and other beautiful objects it feels like a beachy treasure trove. The energy in this space is fantastic and you can tell many wonderful evenings have been spent at the long farmhouse table. We were immediately inspired.

It was an amazing weekend and I was sad to leave. As much as I missed my family, having some precious time to focus on art was such a gift. Katie and I agreed to do it again soon! Thank you, Candace for letting us stay at your magical home!

Do you have a favorite place to get away and create?

Room service at Dawn

Hi there! Happy Friday! Wanted to share a few more Instagram snapshots from my Sydney trip. One of my favorite mornings there we ordered a room service breakfast, promptly delivered at 6 am. Jetlag didn't really slow us down, it just had us going to bed early and waking up with the birds - which - actually turned out to be a gift. Watching the sunrise over Sydney harbor is quite breathtaking and enjoying a hot cup of tea in the snuggly hotel robe wasn't too shabby either...

Home again

Hi dear readers! Yes, I am home from beautiful Sydney and I'm still trying to take it all in. It is always a bit surreal when one day you are in another country and the next you are in your own bed. Always trips me out a bit. We actually got home a week ago but my family stayed on to celebrate Grace's 7th birthday...so...this is my first chance to sit down and post. I have dozens of photos and I promise not to unload them all at once but I thought today I would just share some of my favorite Instagram shots from the first day of our adventure.

sydney 1 text

We landed at 6:07 am. Bright and early!  After enduring all the fuss of customs and luggage wrangling, we jumped into a cab and headed to the Four Seasons Hotel. Even though I was exhausted, my heart was beating fast with excitement! I was actually here. The view from our room brought me to tears. Of joy.

sydney polaroid 3

Like good little travelers, we resisted the urge to stay in our room and sleep and instead went for a brisk walk in The Rocks district, discovered a sweet cafe, downed a few coffees and a tasty breakfast.

sydney polaroid 1

sydney polaroid 2

The feeling of being back in Sydney was rather indescribable. Surreal, bizarre, overwhelming, exhilarating. I was overcome with gratitude that somehow, in a matter of a few days, my dream of returning to my birth city had been actualized. I was in Sydney, with my beloved husband, staying at a beautiful hotel and only hours away from seeing my childhood friends. To quote my dear Aussie friend Jo - "I was completely spun out!"

After a very short nap, we got up showered and felt somewhat human again. We had to seriously rally because we were off to the Opera Bar for sunset drinks with my mates!

sydney polaroid 4

The Opera bar was swarming with people, all taking in the gorgeous view, the warm sun and of course the lovely drinks. I scanned the hundreds of people looking for familiar faces. The butterflies in my stomach raged and my trembling hands were doing their best to steady a glass of white wine. I was nervous and excited at the same time. What would it be like to see these girls after 19 years!?

Just when I thought that perhaps we arrived before them, two hands fell on my shoulders and spun me around. In front of me was two of my girls. Claire and Natalie. We screeched, laughed and embraced in one hysterical mess. I'm sure we looked crazy but we didn't care. Before I knew it, another two friends arrived with bottles of bubbles, warm hugs and endless giggles. While the champagne flowed, we caught up with one another like no time had passed at all.

sydney polaroid 5

The night unfolded beautifully! We ended up at a sushi place where we were joined by another friend. Chris celebrated his birthday there - the actual day had been lost in time when we crossed the date line!

sydney polaroid 6

After that we meandered the Rocks, linking arms, sharing stories old and new and laughing about high school memories. My heart was flooded with happiness.  It felt good to be home.

Sydney polaroid 7

Okay more to come - I will break it up a bit so I don't bore you to tears - I promise.

What have you been up to while I was away? Anyone else travel or start a new Spring project? Do tell.

Ivy

Weekend away: Oregon wine country

Hi there! How's it going? Okay, so I promised I would be back with some pics from our little weekend getaway. I have to admit that my big camera was left in the hotel room because I am so addicted to Instagram. It was fun to capture the moments in a spontaneous (and easy) way with my phone! We stayed in the historic town of McMinnville at the 3rd Street Flats. They are beautifully decorated, European style flats full of gorgeous decor, charm and local art. The complimentary bottle of wine and chocolates didn't hurt either. Love this place and would stay again! We could walk to all the restaurants, bars, cafes, tasting rooms and shops!

That first night we ate at the beautiful and romantic La Rambla! Spanish Tapas and fancy cocktails. Yes, please.

Screen Shot 2013-03-18 at 1.05.17 PM

Screen Shot 2013-03-18 at 1.05.31 PM

Now don't laugh but the whole point of this trip was, yes, to be romantic and go wine tasting but it was to also work on the re-design of my blog. I rarely ever get Chris' undivided attention (and talent) so I took advantage of the situation and we parked at the Cornerstone cafe to geek out together and actually get some things accomplished! Grace & Ivy will be new and improved very soon! ;)

Screen Shot 2013-03-18 at 1.05.43 PM

After a little hard work, we had to go play and taste some wine so we packed up our laptops, hopped in the car and ended up in the tiny town of Carlton.

Screen Shot 2013-03-18 at 1.06.04 PM

We stopped into two places we had never tried before. Absolutely loved the French style Burgundy wines at Scott Paul!

Screen Shot 2013-03-18 at 1.05.54 PM

And a ten sample (yes ten!) wine flight with chocolates was a delight at Seven of Hearts!

Screen Shot 2013-03-19 at 11.20.25 AM

That night we got all dolled up and dined at Thistle. I LOVED this place. Intimate, delicious, charming with a totally vintage vibe. I was right at home.

What a wonderful treat to get away with Chris! It felt amazing to recharge, re-connect and get inspired.  Thank you to my fabulous brother and his beautiful fiancée for taking our kids for the entire weekend!

If you haven't gotten away with your partner lately...try and plan something. It is so worth it!

8 Blogs to adore & explore

Hi there! This week was a bit of a doozy. It started off okay, but by Tuesday I had a fever and was in bed with a bad cold. Ick. However, due to much positive thinking, excessive amounts of Vitamin C, Chinese herbs (recommended by my acupuncturist) and lots of rest...I managed to rally and was back on my feet yesterday. I was still under the weather, but managing to take care of Claire and get some housework done. Today, I'm much better, thankfully, because the hubby and I are heading out tomorrow for a weekend in Oregon wine country - sans kids! So excited! Anyways...on to today's post (which is also some homework for my Decor 8 Blog Boss e-course). I wanted to share with you 8 beautiful blogs to adore and explore! All eight blogs are well organized, easy to read and of course, provide plenty of eye candy, original and authentic content and creative ideas!
