Pink blossoms, Spring fever and creativity overload...

Hello lovely readers! I've got Spring Fever! I'm planning and creating like a mad woman and I don't want to stop. Lol. Even a bad cold isn't stopping me! I have been in bed for three days but I'm sketching away.

IMG_2366

Dreaming of my upcoming retreat to Scotland - (that is Edinburgh Castle). Can't wait and yes...you can see my sweet kitty companion, Leo has been keeping me company while I rest.

And one more - a moody gal inspired by some vintage fashion photography.

IMG_2392

Lucky for me, I have a pretty great view from my cozy bed - the pink blooms of a cherry tree are just starting to pop! One of my favorite things about Spring. They inspired a bit of a Pin-fest and this board emerged...

Oh and speaking of PINK and gorgeous images, my dear friend Georgianna Lane just published her stunning book! You must get it. If you love Paris and flowers then you will adore this...

To go along with all this flurry of Spring energy, I'm having a BIG SALE on our online classes too! Why not!? It's the perfect time to encourage growth and creativity, right? I would love to have you in class.

A NEW way to create

Hello creative friends!

It's a snowy day here and I'm just getting ready to start painting but before I do, I wanted to drop in and say hello and share some art with you.

The students in Between Shadow & Light are making some amazing discoveries and creating such beautiful, soulful portraits! I'm completely thrilled to hear they are learning that their non-dominant hand has much to offer and can open up a NEW way to engage in their creativity.

Here is just a snippet of the beauty coming out of the classroom from these incredible artists...

between-shadow-light

Artists from top left: Maryse Perdriat, Helle Kristensen, Melanie Rivers, Lynda Fortin King, Karen Johnson, Toni Burt, Lynn Colwell, Christy Harris, Robin Laws, Janet Reid, Karen Stallard Nowviskie

Due to this class' immense popularity, I've removed the class size limit. So come on in and join over 250 students from all over the world. Start creating in a BRAND NEW WAY! If you have been looking for a class to spark your creativity, open your heart and get you out of your rut this is the one...

screen-shot-2017-01-16-at-9-19-24-am

Here are some of what the students have been saying...

"Tried a sketch using only my non-dominant hand. So much difference ... especially with my inner critic! It's like I don't expect much from my left hand, so I don't criticize as much? I am definitely going to use my left hand more." - Tracy

"I haven't felt this free and relaxed in a long time while painting. Just let myself go!" - Lynda

"I'm really finding my comfort zone and OCD is put off side without my normal face mapping and creating of facial planes when drawing with my non dominant hand BUT my emotional state centered around the ART is more peaceful and happy." - Christy

 See you in class.

An Art Tutorial for you!

Hello friends!

Happy New Year! I hope your 2017 is off to a beautiful start.

I have been very busy preparing lessons for my new class and I was challenged by a fellow artist to create a piece of art inspired by one of her wonderful ballet photographs. I couldn't resist, so here it is! In my usual style, she goes through several transitions. I worked quickly and loosely with both my dominant and non-dominant hands. I hope you enjoy.

If you enjoyed this video I have many more FREE tutorials. You can check them out here.

Over the  past few months I have been studying Degas and honing my figure drawing skills. Degas' ballerinas proved to be the perfect muse! I've dedicated myself to sketching the human form daily and the work is so rewarding.

ArtWorthy LOVE!

Hello lovely readers! Happy Friday! I have been knee deep in production for my new workshop and I'm still reeling from my extraordinary experience a last weekend!

Many of you know, that I recently hosted my Art & Healing Retreat - ArtWorthy with my dear friend Trina Lee.

Art worth collage 3

We poured our love into designing this retreat to ensure a special, luxurious and heartfelt experience and it was well worth it! In fact, this retreat completely blew me away! I will be forever moved by the love I felt from each beautiful soul in attendance!

ARTWORTHY 2016

From the location to the food, to the art making, to the remarkable healing - every minute was filled with magic and LOVE!

It was so incredibly rewarding to see the relationship between EFT and Art and how, by accessing our inner critic and inner guide (thru EFT, meditation and visualization) we could then move straight to productive and cathartic expression through Art!

TAPPING

Trina and I had personally witnessed this connection but to then see it realized by a group was simply astounding!

We also began to observe how universal our inner critic is and how its message is rather unoriginal. Each woman was being held back by that critical voice but by actualizing it on paper it lost much of its power! This observation and practice brought all the women closer and truly created a safe and sacred space for healing and creation.

With the inner critic put in its place we could move on to celebrating and creating with the authentic self or inner guide! What joy flooded the room as we were able to embrace this all-knowing and all-loving aspect of ourselves. Soulful, beautiful artwork emerged and tears of joy and relief flowed.

TEACHING

I will be changed forever by each of the women that joined us for this groundbreaking weekend.

I wish to send out my deepest gratitude to them all for coming on this journey with us. I also want to thank my amazing friend Trina for all that she did to help my dream become a reality! I can't wait for the next one!!

If you are interested in attending ArtWorthy in 2017 please click below to add your name to the list. You will be the first to hear about all future plans!

The Inner Critic and my Spirit Horses

Hello beautiful souls, How are you all doing? Spring is starting to show up around here. I adore all the sweet pink buds and daffodils! While the flowers have been blooming, I've been busy in the studio filming for my new class - Spirit Horse.

Let me tell you - these Spirit Horse are teaching me so much! I'm creating this class to give others the courage to create large Horse art and  WOW - I've found that my own courage is being challenged!!

My inner-critic has been on overdrive! I can hear her sniping at me - awful words and thoughts about myself. She's a real pain and while I usually can keep her at bay, she jumped me a couple of days ago and I felt like a complete failure. Yeah...she's not the most accurate voice in my head but she can be the loudest!

I decided I needed to drown her out and blast some music (Sia) and just draw like a crazy lady. Fast, (using the wrong hand half the time) and attack the page with charcoal and water! 15 drawings later...something emerged...something beautiful...something loving, something powerful!

The next three drawings flowed out of me. I cried the entire time (mostly out of relief and joy).

These beautiful Spirit horses arrived with such an overwhelming energy of love. It completely blew me away. I hardly knew what was happening.

IMG_7825

IMG_7823

IMG_7824

Once we can silence that inner critic our creative muse comes out to play. I am so grateful she didn't move out entirely!!

I encourage you to do this if you find yourself paralyzed by fear and self doubt it your art! Move your body! Dance! Sing! And then approach the easel with an open and gentle heart. See what emerges as your inner critic starts to quiet.

Share your art with me! I would love to see it! You can post on my Facebook page!

Much love to you all!

Let's Face It: Inspired by Portraits

Hello creative friends! How is your week treating you? I hope all is well in your world.

You may or may not have noticed that I've been a little obsessed lately...and not just with Art in general but in particular - Portraiture! I've always loved drawing faces but recently its become a daily practice of pushing myself, striving for more accuracy, expression and depth. I'm exploring techniques and mediums like never before and after I complete one face I quickly begin another.

All this energy has sprung forth for a couple of reasons...but the MAIN one is because I accepted an opportunity to teach on the Let's Face It Online workshop! This year has been about growth, so I've said YES to the wonderful doors that are opening to me! However, I had no idea what an impact this would have on my own deep desire to hone my skills and better my practice as an Artist.

Here is some of the work I've been doing to prepare to teach this class...

It started with black and white charcoal studies...

and has now led me to color too...looks like I'm a teensy bit in LOVE with my new Sennelier Soft Pastels!!!

I'm enjoying the feeling of a challenge and there is nothing better than feeling yourself expand! This class will be so wonderful. I do hope you will join me and the other talented teachers for this fantastic Portraiture class!

In between shooting videos, editing and being a mom, I sneak in time to create art on my iPad. I don't always have the luxury (or time) to pull out all my art supplies and spend hours creating but my iPad gives me the art hit I need with no mess, no waste and it's simple to put it down and tend to my responsibilities (a two-year old who constantly needs snacks) and then pick it right back up and keep making art. Here are some of my most recent creations...

I've really enjoyed doing some of these whimsical portraits with animals...

Madame Violet & her dog

And some self portrait fun using my own photography...

And even doing some landscapes/cityscapes and more experimental stuff that I don't usually do...

Using the power of technology is an amazing and powerful way to explore art, your creativity and further develop your style and composition with NO risk! Don't like something - Just click UNDO. Gotta love that! ;)

The apps I recommend are Procreate, Repix, icolorama, Brushstroke, DistressedFX and Stackables. There are many others but these are my favs right now.

Five super talented artists have been selected, studying under the master of their choice - thus becoming the "apprentice". This kind of master -apprentice learning is centuries old and is core to the practiced skills of all the Masters.

Check out the line-up of amazing teachers!! Wow...can you say honored!? Read on for all the details....

MASTERSIIIteacherswithnames-2

My fellow artists/instructors include Alisa Burke, Kelly Berkey, Jenny Doh, Melody Ross and of course Jeanne Oliver! Each of them have selected Master Artists that inspire them!

The master Artists we will be studying under are : John Singer Sargent, Gustav Klimt, Joan Miró, Marie Laurencin, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Horrace Pippin.

The Artist I have chosen is Marie Laurecin.

She is a fascinating and rather overlooked Master who hung with a pretty fab Artsy crowd...ya know...like...Georges Braque, Pablo Picasso, Gertrude Stein, Henri Rousseau and French poet and "father of surrealism" Guillaume Apollinaire.  Her work speaks to a deliberate and beautiful contrast to the cubist movement that her friends were so inspired by. Although often referred to as a rare female cubist, her work quickly derailed from this and evolved into a rather primitive, elegant and feminine style - where line and form blur, languid female forms and doe eyed faces tell little of emotion but rather evoke a state of ambivalence and mystery.

ML Collage1

ML collage 2

During my week of study with you, we will explore not only Marie's personal history but her varied use of mediums, techniques and artistic methods. She mastered watercolors, inks, pencil studies as well as oils! Her works move from being cubist inspired to a place infused with inspiration from the Rococo period, Persian art, fashion and ballet. She was an illustrator, painter, portrait artist, set & costumer designer and muse to one of Paris' most influential poets! A truly talented and powerful woman who I know you will love to study! I have planned for a super-inspired week chock full of learning, exploring and most importantly stretching beyond our artistic comfort zones! :) Get ready to truly feel what it is like to be an apprentice to a world renown artist right from the lovely comfort of your own home! So you might be curious...what are others saying about the Studying Under the Masters Course? Read on my friends...

Praise for the Masters series…

“In all my years as an artist, I have never had a course that stretched and grew me so much. Not only has my art taken off in so many exciting ways, but I was blessed with friendship and support I never expected. Thanks for all that you do. I am so looking forward to part two!” -Renee

“The Studying the Masters class inspired me to look deeper into my own art process. The format where I was able to find out more about the artist’s process and their techniques captured my attention. The presenting artists were quality women whose own art process gave me confidence to keep going. I look forward to the next class.” -Linda

“This course is one of the best I have taken in that it introduced me to several different modern day artists. In watching how they studied under some masters, I became a student of, not one, but TWO artists each week, some of whom I feel a real resonance with!! I feel as though I am finding more of my artistic voice as a result of this class, and that is pretty exciting!! Thanks so much Jeanne for helping me take another step closer to my dream! ” -Silvia

“The best class ever no matter your talent level…seeing the instructors paint right along in  “their” style of painting trying to get close to what a Master created was so enlightening since each had awesome talent but different ways to get the final results that they wanted! We were in their studio with there favorite supplies, magic!” -Tari
