Join the talented Renee Mueller for Floret, a slow, intentional invitation to fall in love with flowers again. Through a series of small, soulful paintings, you will learn to translate the quiet beauty of a single bloom into artwork that feels honest and entirely your own.

Imagine gathering a few favorite flowers from your garden, the farmer's market, or a corner shop, then sketching them in expressive charcoal and painting them in luminous layers of oil or acrylic. This class is about seeing flowers the way only you see them. The shape of a petal, the way light catches an edge, the mood a color holds.

You will explore atmospheric backgrounds, natural pigments, loose and expressive drawing, and small romantic florals on linen that feel as though they belong in a French flea market. Each lesson is a quiet collaboration of your heart, hands, and head, encouraging you to work in series and let go of the pursuit of perfection.

Here's a description of each of our special projects:

project 1 - Say It With Flowers

The class begins with painting soft, artful backgrounds on canvas or paper, then styling and photographing your own floral references. Renee shares her tips for creating pleasing, original photographs that feel like yours, the kind of images that inspire authentic, personal artwork.

This gentle, inspiring start shapes the way you'll see your subject for the rest of the class.

project 2 - Petals, Paint & Pigments

A welcoming introduction to painting using non-toxic solvents and pigments, with simple, manageable steps and easy clean-up. Renee shows you how to mix luminous glazes in the spirit of the old masters, creating a beautiful veil of transparent color across your paintings.

She also shares how to bring that same richness to acrylics, and how to incorporate the quiet beauty of natural pigments into your work, no matter what medium you choose.

Project 3 - Expressive Floral Studies in Charcoal

Charcoal on Paper. Loose, sweeping, intuitive marks that fully express what you see in your floral subject. Renee guides you to slow down and observe shape, color, texture, scent, shadow, and the way light catches the edge of a petal.

This is a lesson in play, where you let your materials guide you and discover what you most want to reveal about your subject and yourself.

project 4 - SINGLE STEMS

A small series of single blooms, perfect for finding your rhythm with oils. You begin by sketching your flowers in a thin layer of paint, then add a simple background and build beauty through layers, contrast, and expressive strokes.

Renee also shares how specific colors shape the mood of a painting. A wonderful place to start if you're new to oils or painting flowers.

project 5 - PETITE PAINTINGS

Two small, romantic florals layered with atmospheric backgrounds and ethereal glazes, adding richness and quiet drama. These pieces remind Renee of vintage paintings one might find at a French flea market, soft, moody, and full of feeling.

Project 6 - Four Blooms

A final series painted with lush, romantic backgrounds and transparent layers that seem to float on the surface of the canvas. Working in series helps you take risks and create something truly authentic to you. This lesson is a quiet collaboration of your heart, hands, and head, and a beautiful place to land.

Bonus 1 - Workbook

A beautiful downloadable workbook with photos, resources, recipes, and thoughts to inspire as you work through the class.

It is easy to get swept away with art supplies, especially when you begin a new class. You don't need everything on the list! I suggest that you substitute with what you have on hand. I've made my best discoveries through substitution. I always recommend watching the video first; if there is something new, decide if you want to try it.
