What we will learn together…

Before we Begin

You will be introduced to Procreate’s user-friendly interface and be shown the various menus and tools. Afterwards, you will learn how to: download files to your iPad, create a canvas for fine-art, work with the color panels, and get ready to be creative!

WARMUP LESSONS

Get hands-on experience using Procreate’s various drawing tools and practice your drawing skills. Create lines, shapes, shaded forms and learn helpful Procreate tricks that we will use later in bigger projects. There is a total of 5 warm-ups to help get you going.

LESSON 1: Loose Nature Sketch

Observe and draw freehand from a nature reference. Then add ink and watercolor for a loose color study, just as you would in your own sketchbook or art journal.

LESSON 2: Toned Paper Portrait

Create your own toned, textured paper background and then draw out a portrait using Procreate’s charcoals and pastels. Apply shadows, highlights and expressive details for an elegant drawing that resembles traditional charcoal drawings on toned paper.

LESSON 3: Realistic Still Life

In this lesson, you will learn to draw and shade more precisely using Procreate’s Alpha Lock feature. You will also get to experience shading with colors and learn a few tricks. Photo references will be provided but feel welcome to compose your own still life with objects that are meaningful to you. This technique is great for creating realistic 3-D objects that have well defined edges!

BONUS LESSON

Still love working with traditional drawing? So does Eris! That’s why she combines her traditional media with her digital. Get a rare glimpse behind the scenes of Eris’s unique mixed media processes. Then try out one of her techniques for yourself.

Who is this class for?

Welcome, brave adventurers of new media! My name is Eris Klein and I will be guiding you through this exciting course.

Whether you are a beginner or a professional - you will find these lessons invaluable. While I built them around using Procreate, I also teach traditional drawing techniques that are the foundation for many other art forms.

Please note that you will need an iPad with Procreate and preferably an Apple Pencil to get the full benefit of the lessons. However, if you know Adobe Fresco, Photoshop, or another digital painting program – many of the basic principles can be translated to other painting apps.

So, let’s get creative!
