Exploring Digital Art

As many of you know, I've been dabbling in the world of digital art. It's been a true delight and so much fun. I love the experimental nature of it and it is very tidy compared to my paper collages! It's amazing what you can do with Photoshop elements!

Like always, I am a bit hesitant to share my own creations...it's so much easier to promote the work of others! (It's an artist's curse). BUT I know it is good for me to get out of my comfort zone...so here are two works that I did recently. I got stock photography via Deviant art. If you are playing around with digital collage, I highly recommend checking out their resources. So many wonderfully generous people post all sorts of stock photography, Photoshop brushes, textures and other goodies!

I'm thinking of printing these out and mounting them onto wood. What do you think?

Blogging about artists all the time has really got me inspired and I think I'm almost ready to start a painting for real! My blank canvas and paints are sitting in the corner of my studio waiting for me. I just bought this book and it is helping me find my creative confidence again. I highly recommend it. I must share this one quote that is really sticking with me...

"Start by doing what is necessary ; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible." - St. Francis of Assisi

Don't you love that!? Powerful stuff.

Okay, well back to the household chores. Hope you are having a fabulous Wednesday.

Happy New Year

Hello Friends! Happy New Year! I hope your holidays were lovely. We had a fabulous time here. Lots of food, wine and laughs! A wonderful Christmas with everyone under one roof - ours. Having the space this year, to host the festivities, was a real treat!

Today, we took down the tree (boo!) and all the twinkling lights (I miss them the most). I really hate taking down the decorations. It always makes me a little sad...like unpacking after a beautiful vacation...there's so much build up, so much excitement and then it's all over so fast. ho hum.

On the up side, I know 2011 is going to be fantastic! I've got lots of ideas and inspiration and I'm truly excited to see where this New Year will take me.

Speaking of inspiration...over the break, Chris got me Photoshop Elements and I've been dabbling with digital collage...wow...can you say FUN!

Here are my first three attempts...

I am having a blast playing around with this new medium. So many possibilities!

What's inspiring you right now? Got big plans for your New Year?

Going within

Just completed my BYW homework and I'm glad it's done. This course is really making me think. and dream. and wonder. and worry. and fear. and be so excited I want to jump up and down and sing. It's making me go within. Deep. Down. We got our assignment Monday and its taken me all week to finally sit down and write out my thoughts. The answers haunted me everyday, begging to be brought forth and made real. Pen to paper. One afternoon, I even sat down with my journal, dated the page, wrote "Homework Week 2" at the top of the page, brought the tip of the pen to the paper and then stopped. Closed the book, laid the pen down and walked away. Ridiculous!

One of the things we had to address this week was what made us different...what would we bring to the table that was unique to the blogging world? This question scared the heck out of me. Tonight, as I neared the end of the assignment, that very question loomed at the bottom of the page. Mocking me.

Finally, I grabbed it with both hands looked it in the face and wrote from my heart exactly what I had to offer. It felt good, and I realized that I do indeed have much to offer and even more to gain by simply being me. That's unique right? No one is me, except me. Now it's time to accept and cherish that...

Now, for some gorgeous images that made me think of how I've felt this week...

More beautiful photography from one of my favorites - Lauren Withrow. Check it here.

Have a lovely, restful Sunday.

As Fall approaches...

Rain is blowing in as I type this - Portland is due to be gray for the next two days. A prelude of what is to come. A new season is approaching and I'm actually excited to greet it. Tomorrow, I start my blogging class and I'm so thrilled. Grace goes off to school. Chris to work. Me and my computer are going to cozy up and get some work done. I hope.

As I daydream of what might lie ahead...I found myself thoroughly enjoying these beautiful images by Cedric Bihr.

Simple, serene and set with the hues of autumn, I had to share...

I'll let you know what my homework assignment is tomorrow. If only I had been this excited about homework when I was a kid!
