Hello my horse loving friends!
Who doesn't adore the beauty, grace and strength of horses? They have captivated artists for centuries and have been depicted in all cultures!
But hey, they can be intimidating to draw right?
Well...my intention is not to teach you how to draw a horse perfectly - that could take years of practice! But to rather show you how to capture the essence of the Horse - your very own SPIRIT HORSE!
I will be walking you through the creation of THREE stunning works of horse ART!

OUR PROJECTS - Three mixed media paintings*
Ink & Paint Collage Horse
We will be creating a beautiful collage of vintage ephemera, book pages and papers and then using India ink, charcoal and acrylic paint to create a gestural and elegant horse head. The horse can be as detailed or painterly as you see fit. Drips and splatters are recommended. To bring harmony and patina to the piece we will be using a glazing technique in conjunction with layers of acrylic mediums to create texture.
Horse in Abstraction*
This project will focus on color and the abstraction or exaggeration of the horse’s form. A patchwork of brilliant color will then be tamed by applying broad areas of paint around the horse’s silhouette. The project will be done on a large wood panel and sealed with cold wax.
*This project is greatly inspired by artist, Jylian Gustlin. She was gracious enough to allow us to use her work as an as inspiration for our class.
Gilded Horses*
An elegant and rhythmic painting done in a gorgeous palette of white, black and golds. We will be again focusing on simplifying form and focusing on the curves and sinuous shapes of horses intertwined. Shimmering touches of gold gilding will contrast the graphic bold shapes.
*This project was greatly inspired by artist, Erica Nordean. She was very generous when I reached out to her and was happy to have her work in our classroom as inspiration for us.

Who is this class for?
This class is for anyone who loves horses and who loves ART! Since most of the projects are collage based there is no need for a ton of drawing and painting experience. However, experienced artists will also enjoy these beautiful projects as well.
The goal is to create THREE finished pieces of gorgeous horse ART and I'll be with you every step of the way!
SUPPLY LIST
Please use what you HAVE! It is not my intention at all to have you purchase everything on the list. Buy only what you think you will use. There are a number of essential materials needed as noted below but many things can be substituted. Let me know if you have questions.
1 Large square canvas or wood board at least 24” x 24"*
Vintage collage papers/ephemera*
Soft gel Matte Medium* or collage glue of your choice
Baby wipes or rags*
Spray bottle*
Sketchbook or art journal
