Body of Water

Step into the studio for a lesson built around tenderness, layered paint, and a vintage figure at the heart of the page.
The idea is simple. A mixed media collage built on top of a letter you write to your own body. The letter becomes the under-layer, painted and collaged over, partially obscured, but present in every layer that follows.
The page we'll make together is meant to feel like a small ceremony turned toward yourself. Slower than usual, more deliberate.
I'll walk you through painted and collaged backdrops, placing a vintage figure at the center of the page, working with symbolism and color, and adding gold leaf where you want to mark what matters. We'll also talk about color planning and how I use it for color palettes and reference images, in case you want to follow along.
I hope you can join me!
What You’ll Learn In Class…
A letter to your body, written first
You'll begin the page with a handwritten letter. Not for anyone else to read, just for the work itself. Painted and collaged over, partially obscured, but present in every layer above it.
Painted & collaged backdrops
Acrylics, watercolor ground, vintage papers, scraped layers. I'll walk through the techniques I reach for when I want depth without the page feeling heavy.
A vintage figure dressed in your details
We'll choose and place a figure that holds personal meaning, then add the patterns and small marks that make her yours.
Symbolism, color & composition
I'll talk through every decision as the page comes together. Why I place the figure where I do, why I choose certain colors, what each symbol is doing. So you can carry the same instincts into your own art journaling.
Gold leaf & quiet embellishments
Gold foil, ink, and a white paint pen used with restraint. I'll show you where they belong, and just as importantly where they don't.
Color Planning & photo references
Inside our color palette lesson, I'll show you exactly how I prepare my palette for planning and photo references. This approach works with any reference you love.
