What you’ll learn in class…
Warmup Lesson: Crystal-inspired Affirmation Cards
In our warmup lesson, we will explore various crystals and stones, examining their colors and patterns. We'll use these natural inspirations to create charming affirmation cards, focusing on different watercolor techniques to bring unique styles and looks to life on paper. These cards are intended to be enjoyable, light-hearted projects designed to help you loosen up, get comfortable with watercolors (especially if you're a beginner), and release any pressure or fear. It's the perfect way to pave the path for our main lesson...
Lesson one: Amber Deva
In this main lesson, we will bring a whimsical Amber Spirit Girl to life on paper, inspired by the sunny, happy, and warm hues of Baltic amber. I will guide you step-by-step in drawing a whimsical girl's face from scratch, and then we'll bring it to life using my favorite watercolor techniques combined with mixed media to create a unique, playful, and fun signature look.
You will learn how to use amber as inspiration for color and pattern and gain insights into the amazing energy of amber. By the end, we will merge the elements of crystals and a girl’s portrait, and I'll share my favorite techniques for blending different elements in one painting and combining various layers for a balanced overall look.
We will finish the piece with some fun mixed media techniques and infuse it with the energy of real amber to create a beautiful piece of art that’s sure to inspire you and provide a positive energy boost whenever you look at it.
Bonus Lesson: Agate Deva
In this bonus lesson, I will introduce you to another Crystal Deva, inspired by the beautiful circular patterns of banded agate. I'll share additional watercolor techniques to create stunning textured effects, which you can use as a springboard to create your own Crystal Devas inspired by your favorite crystals and stones. The techniques you've learned in this class can be applied repeatedly to create a variety of beautiful, crystal-inspired pieces of art.

Who’s This Class For?
This class is perfect for beginners, as I will explain everything in detail and for advanced artists looking to gain new ideas, improve their skills, and learn fun techniques to incorporate into their work. My goal is for you to walk away with exciting new skills that you can personalize and integrate into your future projects, whether as standalone pieces or combined with other techniques. I want you to learn to trust the process, let go of some pressure and control, and allow parts of the painting to create themselves with the magic of watercolors.
Some of the key teachings in this class:
The basics of drawing a simple, whimsical, and playful girl’s face.
A fun, loose approach to coloring and shading a whimsical girl’s face using watercolors.
Techniques for using watercolor and various tools to create beautiful textures that mimic the enchanting patterns found in crystals, stones, and nature.
How to layer, add depth, and apply finishing touches to your project using texture paste, stamps, colored pencils, and special effect watercolors.
Utilizing the energy of colors inspired by crystals to enhance your painting, infusing it with specific, special energy and evoking particular feelings through color choices.
Learning to trust the process, relinquish total control, and embrace the beauty of watercolors by allowing them to flow naturally, guiding rather than forcing them.
SUPPLY LIST
Please keep in mind that in art it's not about the supplies - so those are the supplies I used to create my piece - however - you might use other supplies from your own stash to create a similar piece! I'm a firm believer in use what you have and make it work for you. If you decide to work with other brands or not the exact same but similar supplies - go for it - lots of art supplies can be replaced by other, similar supplies and media… Make it your own!
Basics
Pencil - preferably HB or 2H
Eraser
Watercolor Brushes of your choice (I mostly work with round tip Brushes – a Selection of 3-4 different Sizes is more than enough for a „Go to Set“ – my favourite Brands are Escoda and Kum)
Black, fine tip Pen for Outlining Work (I use Uniball Eye Rollerball but also love Steadtler Fineliner, Edding Fineliner or Faber Castell Fineliner - however - I would recommend one with a metal Tip like the Uniball because it's more durable especially when working on a Mixed Media Surface compared to a Felt Tip Pen)
Paper
A heavyweight, good-quality watercolor Paper is Key. I especially love to work with Arches Watercolor Paper as well as with Hahnemühlen Watercolor Paper – preferably a cold-pressed one for interesting Paper Texture and at least 300g/m2 in weight.
Watercolors
Watercolors of your Choice - I used Daniel Smith Watercolors and Schmincke Horadam Watercolors - but work with YOUR favorite Brand / the Brand(s) you have at home!
White Paint
A white Paint marker (Sharpie or Molotow Paint marker) - or white Gesso or white Gouache Paint - I use Dr. Ph. Martin‘s Bleed Proof White.
