WHAT IS STUDIOWORKS CREATIVE ACADEMY?

A special artistic journey through pastels, mixed media & creative journaling.

We’ll discover the soothing power of water with our first lesson, inviting you to surrender to the creative process. Explore watery colors like soft pinks, greens, and yellows in a simple portrait. Use the provided line drawing to trace or transfer the portrait, making it accessible for all skill levels. Enhance your experience by working with Tarot or oracle cards or journaling about your connection with water and the emotions it evokes.

As a special bonus, gain special access to our Studioworks Creative Journal. We’ll explore Issue No. 34 dedicated to water, featuring discussions about the renowned symbolist artist Odilon Redon. Inside the journal, you’ll also enjoy a special bonus mixed media collage lesson. Embrace your emotions, choose colors you love, and immerse yourself in self-compassion and gentle love throughout this artistic journey.

Connecting to our intuition

Before you get started, how about working with our beloved Tarot or oracle cards? If you don’t do cards no worries, then simply give yourself the gift of journaling about how you connect with Water and the emotions that arise when you delve into this element. Journaling prompts will be provided as a guide to begin this journey.

Creating with Water…

Ready to jump into our main lesson, here I guide you through a simple watercolor layer and then we move to the beautiful PanPastels. We will explore how to use color effectively, paying special attention to the values and forms of the face. Adding delicate details with pastel pencils will give this piece that extra dose of magic! This is my new favorite medium and I hope you will give them a go but if not, please use the mediums you enjoy the most! This project could be created in acrylics, oils, watercolors or mixed media! The important part is that you slow down, commune with Water, and express your creativity

Special Bonus : Studioworks Journal

As you may already know, we create a monthly creative online magazine for our creative community - Studioworks. Included with your class, we share the entire Studioworks Journal Issue No. 34 which is dedicated to the element of Water.

In this project, you will hear me discuss the artist, Odilon Redon. He is one of my favorite symbolist artists from the 19th century. I LOVE art history so I couldn’t resist sharing some with you. You will see that he is the Master Artist we study in the Studioworks Journal so you can learn more about him inside too! 

Special bonus lesson : Body of water

Inside this mixed media collage lesson, we will celebrate our bodies and create a beautiful page dedicated to honoring our amazing vessels. Don’t feel you have to stick with my design, let your express your emotions and use colors that you love. Drench yourself in self-compassion and gentle love. 

• UArt Sanded Paper or Board

• PanPastels - I used Titanium White, Orange Tint, Yellow Ochre Tint, Permanent Red, Ultramarine Blue, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Sienna Tint, Burnt Sienna Shade, Raw Umber Shade (Basic Kit) I also used touches of Ultramarine Shade, Turquoise, Turquoise Shade and Turquoise Tint

• Art Journal or substrate of your choice 

• Watercolor pencil or Stabilo All Pencil in Brown 

• Collage papers/ Magazines/ Catalogues/ Vintage Papers (I order mine on Etsy) 

• Old credit card or scraper to assist with collage 

• Scissors 

• Clear gesso 

• Matte Medium Soft Gel or Glue of your choice 

• Yes Paste (optional) 

• Palette knife

• Sofft Tool - Oval Sponge, Oval Knife #3, Mini Applicators

• Watercolors - Shinhan - Ultramarine, Cobalt, Cerulean, Viridian Green

• White charcoal pencil

• Assorted Pastel Pencils by Carbothello

• Fixative by Sennelier

• Golden Watercolor Ground in White or Transparent

• Acrylic paints of your choice

• Assorted Brushes

• Poska Pen in White or White paint pen of your choice

• Gold embellishments (I used Gold Foil embellishments - you can find them on Amazon and Etsy)

• Gold Ink or Gold paint
