Only $67.00

Nicole-Warrington-Bio-Photo-Vertical.jpg

Hello wonderful creatives!

For the past year I’ve been Painting with Threads and it’s been an exciting addition to my body of works. I have been loving exploring this ancient medium and this one felt like a natural progression in my life.

Let’s create beautiful tiny Portraits with Thread.

What we will learn together…

Threading intuitively

Starting with a new medium and that empty fabric, is as daunting as starting any blank canvas. I thought a good place to start would be chatting about how to get your image onto the fabric. Sketching with pencil, tracing and and even using watercolors will help map out your direction.

Lesson 1 : STITCHING OVER

We’ll start very simply for our first lesson, especially if you are new to stitching or haven’t stitched for many years. A gentle approach would be to work relatively small. We’ll start small and move bigger as we go.

This is a lovely lesson to start with. It is not overloaded with stitches and allows both your painting, mixed with stitches, to make your piece come alive.

Lesson 2 : working intuitively

As you may know, I am huge into working intuitively, and I am not sure I could teach any lesson without touching on this subject. I love working with references and having a starting point, of course. I do however believe my first love is working intuitively. I think it’s the mystery of it that keeps me coming back for more. I learn something new each time, and maybe it has to do with no rules, no agenda and the freedom that that offers me. In this lesson, we will explore the beauty of working this way and allowing the colored threads to tell the story!

Lesson 3 :  Stitching on a printed image

I had a little pouch on which a Giuseppe Arcimboldo image was printed. When I took a closer look at the image, I thought it would be perfect to fill each tiny petal and leaf with a stitch.  In fact, the more I look at Giuseppe’s incredible works, the more I think his work is a beautiful inspiration for stitching with all the beautiful tiny details of flora and fauna.  You are going to love exploring this intricate process with me in this lesson!

Between each lesson we will study 3 incredible fibre artists and look at their methods and techniques.

Who is this class for?

Just like my other classes, these lessons will also be about finding your own soulful story in amongst the creative layers and textures of your thread with what you have around you and inside you.

Once again, I hope you will join in and journey together with me as we create and find our story through the imagery and stories buried within us in a way that feels old school and tender. We will spend a bit of time creating quick and easy portraits intuitively, using your own paintings as inspiration and references in finding ways to combine and use our own layers to tell our story.
