Let’s Start Sketching

Only $77.00

Hello my dear creatives,

My name is Yvonne Morell. Even though I am a mixed media artist, keeping a sketchbook has become an important part of my creative practice. I love to draw in Coffee shops, at the market, with friends, well, simply everywhere!

It is a moment just for me, to take a break, where time stays still, a way to charge my personal batteries. It inspires me, improves my art and gives me the opportunity to create anywhere.

I created this class because it is dear to my heart to help you get started and realize how much FUN it is!

Inside this class, we will be working on your creative mindset, covering materials that are the most practical, the foundation of sketching, understanding perspective, and much more.

Keeping a sketchbook is for EVERYONE! We will improve one sketch at a time.

It is YOUR time to start sketching!

What we will learn together…

Lesson 1 : Mindset

This was me a few years ago. I AM A SKETCHBOOK HOARDER. I loved paper and gorgeous sketchbooks but would not draw in them, afraid I would ruin them. Does that ring any bell? Well, these times are over. I will address all the fears and obstacles that keep us away from sketching. If I can change, so can you.

lesson 2 : Materials

Creating outdoors demands using a minimum of art supplies to get the most out of it. You want to be able to pop everything into your purse, to be ready to create anytime, anywhere. I will cover what is practical and useful.

Lesson 3 : First pages in a sketchbook

The first page of a sketchbook is like a white canvas. We look at different possibilities to start a brand new sketchbook not to get intimidated. Further, we will get to know our materials and also explore different line styles. You won’t be scared of that first page anymore!

Lesson 4 : Drawing with a fine line pen

Knowing how to use line is vital to your sketchbook practice. We will explore how to draw with simple lines, hatching, cross-hatching, etc. I will show you, how to create volume, movement, and variation in your line work. This way of drawing can be used for anything all throughout the class projects.

Lesson 5 : Handlettering

It is fun to add some hand lettering to our pages, to document where we were, how we felt or what we want to improve. We will look at simple ways to modify your own handwriting that allows you to add some fun letters immediately to your sketchbook.

sketching and finding inspiration everywhere

Now it’s time to fill our sketchbooks by finding inspiration at home. Next, let’s get outside and begin sketching in public at coffee shops, beautiful buildings and more. So many wonderful places to explore!

Lesson 6 : Sketching at home

There is so much inspiration at home! We could fill whole sketchbooks just indoors. I have come to the conclusion that the most basic things become interesting once you draw them. Plants, a kitchen shelve, the view into your backyard, it is never-ending. Let’s discover your home and work with fine line pens and watercolor. Learn how to achieve depth with 3 layer technique.

Lesson 7 : Sketching in public – Coffee shop

Sketching in public takes a bit of courage in the beginning, but you will soon get over it. In this lesson, we will head out to a coffee shop. You will learn how to work in vignettes and how to deal with sketching when you do not have much time or feel intimidated with all the things that surround you.

Lesson 8 : Sketching buildings

Drawing buildings is not only fun when you are traveling, even in your home town, it is so interesting to observe a house, look at the details and simply draw what interests you.

We will start this lesson with a warm-up exercise to get your lines loose and focus on light and shadows.

For the main house project, I will share with you how I draw a whole house range with a slight perspective. It is so much simpler than it looks. We will also work with a limited palette in watercolors.

Lesson 9 : Sketching people

Sketching people is the most challenging. They move, walk away or even come over to see what you are doing!

We will be looking at how to choose your subject, where to start when you have a terrace full of people and how to go about it.

You’ll discover your own style and fun characters when capturing people in your sketchbooks!

Bonus Lesson : Perspective

In this bonus class, I will cover the basics of one and two-point perspective. What are vanishing points, where the horizon is, and how to use it while sketching outdoors.

You will be surprised how easy it is once you understand the basic principles!
