After explaining the basics, Kathy explains how to combine styles, add embellishments, and even digitize lettering. More than 20 projects include wedding invitations, temporary tattoos, address stamps, metal etching, and a custom family tree. ARTIST STATEMENT

Creating art is a part of me. When I was seven, I won a local art contest and my artwork was published in the local newspaper. I knew then I was an artist. But life changes and I found myself graduating with a computer science degree. After a 25-year career in Finance and IT, I began painting again as a therapeutic practice. For me, creating art feels like home. It’s the thing that makes me excited to get out of bed in the morning. It’s my happy place where I come home to myself. I started with abstract art and fell in love with the freedom of experimenting with color, texture, expressive mark-making and composition. Now I’m falling in love with portrait and figurative art. I love all the subtle details of the face, body, skin and expressions. In my art, I explore the tender moments shared with one another in ordinary daily lives. It’s been a long time coming, but I feel like I’ve come home.
