Get started with painting mixed media faces

As artists, we know that feeling - the deep yearning to create a portrait that feels expressive and authentic! It's a powerful urge and if you've been building up the courage to put paint to paper -  well, you're in the perfect place!

I’ve created this class to help you discover painting mixed media faces in a relaxed and perfectly imperfect way. To express yourself in exactly the WAY you want to! No rules. No judgment. Just pure creative joy!

I related so well to the way Jenny was teaching, I was actually drawn into my art...

Are you looking for inspiration?

The Eyes of the Soul is a course to light your creative spark. You’ll feel inspired, energized and excited about creating faces in a fun and relaxed way. This is your step-by-step guide to create mixed media faces. One of the key things, when I create faces, is to work with several paintings at the same time. This prevents me from getting stuck when my paintings gets into the “ugly” phase. In this class we will work on three paintings simultaneously to prevent that we get stuck with one face but rather move on to the next to keep the flow and momentum going.

Lesson 1 - Get into your Flow

Get excited! You’ll watch and learn how to make a grungy background with collage and mark-making. By pulling together recycled materials we’ll focus on the act of making, rather than a perfect product.

These techniques will help you uncover how to

  • let go of your inner criticism and get into the flow, and

  • find the freedom to explore what feels good in the moment.

By the end of this part, you have started three paintings ready to build on!

Lesson 2 - Find the faces

Now it’s time to draw and paint the faces. You might love to draw faces or maybe you are not used to it at all but would like to start. It does not matter in what stage you are. I will show you my process and all my tricks and techniques that I use to get to find and create a face full of emotion and soul.

Before you know it, you’ll find a way that works for you. By the end of this part you’ll be itching to create several faces and you will have the tools to start exploring your own voice and style.

Lesson 3 - Eyes & Grunge

In the last couple of videos, I will show you how I paint the eyes and the final touches to my paintings. By leaving the eyes “open”, not painted, until the very end of the process I ensure that the piece can speak to me and give me access to the soul and the feel of the face I am painting.

By the end of part 3, you’ll have uncovered tools to create a face with confidence. You’ll be bolder and braver and have begun to find peace in letting go of expectations and finding your flow.

Are you ready to start?

So remember… the process and the time you spend creating is the purpose of the journey! The product is not the goal! I promise with this mind set, you will find this way of creating nourishing, inspiring and FUN!

I hope you will come along and join me!
