Welcome friends, to Issue No. 47 of the Studioworks Journal! I’m delighted you have decided to come and enjoy our Studioworks Open House. I’m excited to share this with you.
On my journey to Ireland, I was so taken by the beautiful landscapes. I found myself gazing out the window at the sea and watching in awe as the light and colors shifted with the passing clouds. It wasn’t long before I had taken dozens of photos and began to make thumbnail sketches that I would create pastel paintings from.
Inside this journal, let’s pay homage to the art of being at one with the landscape. To expand on how we can create with the land as our Muse.

I’m So delighted to be your teacher as we explore an expressive portrait inspired loosely on the work of our Master Artist, Joan Eardley.
Enjoy this mixed media lesson where I use charcoal and pastels. Please feel free to supplement or replace the mediums I use with your favorites. Focus on expression and looseness instead of accuracy or realism. Allow yourself to feel free in this project. Don’t be afraid to scrub parts out and add more layers! Joan did this a lot!
