Like Art, Poetry invites us to feel emotion. Like Art, Poetry can be undefined, raw, suggestive, free and magical. Words and images tumble together, tussling among the scarlet and golden leaves of our thoughts, our vivid memories. Forgotten feelings. Dreams. Silent secrets. Blood red rage and whispered desires. Art and Poetry co-exist. Words and colors. Stanzas and brushstrokes. Verses and imagery…
This is why we have created this class. Petra and I welcome you to a world where words expand and art holds space for the emotion and beauty within all of us. By pairing the two, we can express more of ourselves. We can experience our art on a deeper level and unleash both our shadow and our light.
Wax and Plaster are the perfect mediums for such work. Luminous and obscure. Translucent and opaque. Liquid and austere. Like our inner workings and the energy of our being, these materials can ebb and flow, allowing us to explore a tactile and intuitive way of art making.

In addition to an exploration of free verse poetry writing, Here's a description of our special art projects:
Project 1 - Wonderous Wax
We will be creating a beautiful combination of words, imagery and layers of encaustic wax. Petra will guide you through a beautiful poetic landscape piece and I will be showing you how to create a layered and dreamy block poetry collage. Both projects are full of techniques that enable you to truly embrace the beauty of wax and words.
Project 2 - Plaster delights
Plaster, paint, poetry! Luminous plaster makes the perfect backdrop for soft hues, lyrical words and more! Petra will teach you how to create a unique feather themed piece. I will be creating an abstract floral composition. Both projects will expand on the use of plaster, paint and gorgeous texture!
Project 3 - Plaster & Wax Unite
In this next project we bring it all together. Plaster, wax, imagery and poem, layers of beauty, texture and mixed media! Petra will compose a series of stunning otherworldly landscapes, while I will create an dreamy, feminine figurative piece with you.

What kind of supplies do I need for this workshop?
Please use what you HAVE! It is not our intention at all to have you purchase everything on the list. Buy only what you think you will use. There are a number of essential materials needed as noted below but many things can be substituted. Let me know if you have questions.
