Hello my wonderful creatives!
This Mixed Media Portrait Lesson explores working with both your non-dominant hand and dominant hand, using a combination of media to create your emotive sketch, creating your underpainting with a focus on values and bringing your portrait to completion. It is a fun and approachable lesson for all levels of experience!
I loved creating this painting and The message behind the project is the concept of celebrating the beautiful embrace of the night time sky, sparkling with starts and to cherish the stillness that night brings. It is the perfect time to go within and center our hearts. I encourage you to be intuitive with this process and allow emotions and personal symbolism to rise to the surface and infuse your work.
I hope you will join me!

Here's a description of each of our special projects:
creating with freedom
This painting is an intuitive, mixed media portrait focused on the theme of Night. It was created using acrylic paint, oil paint, pencil, graphite stick and paint pen. We begin this project by drawing with our non-dominant hand and by doing so, disconnecting from control and perfection. Our non-dominant hand can often create very freely, without the critical mind stepping in and this can allow for wonderful freedom, expression and authentic mark making.
Layering and value study
We will then move to our dominant hand to tighten up our drawing. Once we fix our sketch, I will guide you through a layered painting process where I begin with acrylics and then move to oils. If you are not an oil painter, NO worries! You can just proceed with your acrylic paints or the medium of your choice. We will focus on values and studying the features to bring beautiful form to our portrait.
This is a soothing and rewarding process, one I know you are sure to enjoy!
