A mixed media class exploring beautiful images, textures and color.
I often wonder about the creative process of artists and designers, what inspired them and how their art brought so much beauty in the world. In this class, we will look at a couple of my favorite master artists, along with their work to inspire us along our creative pathway.
We will explore these beautiful thoughts and ideas through a collection of images and textures using a variety of tools, mediums and our own intuition. I will share these fun and creative ideas with you throughout the class as we create art together.

Here's a description of each of our special projects:
Warm-Up Lesson - Mixed Media Floral
Henri Matisse was best known as the Master of Fluidity and Color. The greatest colorist of the 20th century. It is only fitting we use him as an example and paint a lovely mixed media floral in his colorful and impressionistic style. Using texture and contrast to create a lovely still-life.
Lesson One - A Floral Bouquet
In this lesson we will be exploring color and texture creating a lovely floral bouquet. Identifying color, shape, texture soft edges and editing from a photo. Creating a lovely acrylic still-life painting.
Lesson Two - A Summer Bouquet
This lesson is inspired by a photo from a summer bouquet purchased at a local Farmer’s Market. A fun and simple lesson using watercolors as a base to create a beautiful, fluid watercolor painting. Adding texture without disturbing the soft and quiet painting underneath.
Lesson Three - A Frida Kahlo Portrait
In this lesson, we will be creating a portrait of Frida Kahlo. I will guide you step by step as we develop this soft watercolor portrait. In addition to painting with watercolors, we will learn to use masking fluid and add texture and interest to the background. The emphasis of this lesson is for you to capture the beauty of a portrait and the nature surrounding it.
Bonus Lesson - A Colorful Poinsettia
What better way to explore color than to paint on Yupo paper. A synthetic, nonporous, tree-friendly paper. Allowing the paints to create interesting textures and colors as the paint moves and dries on the paper. A fun exercise in letting go! We will be using both watercolor paints and alcohol inks to develop a fun, fluid, and colorful Poinsettia floral piece.
