I am so excited to announce that I am following my dreams and putting together an amazing creative women's retreat with Outlander as the theme!

As artists we can gain so much inspiration from travel and experiencing the world - new scenery, a shift in light, new faces, textures, sounds, tastes - all these things heighten our creativity! Like travel, stories inspire us as well and the Outlander books and TV series has brought me much joy! So I've combined my love for Art and Outlander and to create this magical creative retreat!

Okay so, let me tell you a little bit about what I have planned for you on this life changing trip!

DAY ONE

This morning you arrive in Edinburgh and will be greeted by our tour directors.

We start our journey in this beautiful, historical city with a guided tour and a stop at the Scottish Storytelling Center, located on Edinburgh's charming Royal Mile.  Here we will not only focus on the Outlander series but learn about the age old tradition of Scottish storytelling.

After checking in to the luxurious Radisson Blu Hotel, we can spend the afternoon exploring at our leisure and then gather together for our Welcome dinner!

Day two

After breakfast, we will head out and explore the National Galleries where we will admire many famous works by Matisse, Botticelli and Rembrandt to name just a few! This art gallery boasts over 96,000 pieces from the early Renaissance to the present day! We will also visit the impressive Edinburgh Castle!

Can you imagine taking in the breathtaking views while we explore? Of course, we will be taking moments to sketch, paint and capture the beauty!

The afternoon and evening is open for us to gather, make some art and prepare for our trip into the Highlands!

DAY THREE

Today, we head northwest to visit Doune Castle. This is the fictional Castle Leoch in the Outlander TV Series! We will picnic right there on the castle grounds as we admire the beauty and imagine Claire arriving to this imposing fortress!

After lunch, we will journey on to the mystical Clava Cairns - this site that was the inspiration for Craigh na Dun! What an amazing place to gain inspiration, take photographs and do a quick sketch or two!

Before our day comes to an end, we will stop at the infamous Culloden Battlefield...and even pay our respects to the Fraser Clan.

Day four

After breakfast, we travel northwest to visit Castle Leod - the inspiration behind Castle Leoch. At this scenic destination, I imagine us peacefully drawing or painting plein air before we head south to Beauly Priory.

As you may well remember from the books, this was the site where Claire meets the seer- Maisri.

For dinner we will dine at the historical Castle Tavern and enjoy some local fare and culture.

Day Five

This morning, we set out on a scenic cruise of Loch Ness and imagine Claire catching a glimpse of the mythical Water Horse.

We will also visit the picturesque site of Urquhart Castle, which is a filming location for several scenes in the Outlander TV series. This site will be perfect for some watercolor painting!

After a glorious day in the Highlands, we head back to Inverness and visit the Inverness Museum & Art Gallery - a center for Scottish heritage, art and culture.

Leaky's Bookstore

Leaky's Bookstore

Who doesn't love a good old bookstore right? Well, it doesn't get any more charming than Leaky's Bookshop right in the heart of Inverness. This historic bookstore is actually in a restored Gaelic Church! We can leaf through beautiful old books and have a  lovely cup to tea too!

Tonight, after dinner we will gather to create in our art journals and reflect on all the beauty we have seen.

Day Six

We will depart sweet Inverness to journey to Culross and the Culross Palace. This beyond quaint village was the filming location for the town "Cranesmuir" in the Outlander TV series.

This location with cobbles stone streets and wonderful architecture, will provide perfect inspiration for sketching and painting.

We will move on to the picturesque town of Stirling where we will visit the Stirling Smith Art Gallery & Museum - home to a selection of art, historical photographs and more!

Tonight, we will retire in the stately Highlands Hotel and gather for some more art fun after dinner!

Day Seven

This day we will walk in the shadows of Jamie's heroic suffering, as we head out for a visit to the impressive Linlithgow Palace which - of course was the setting for the infamous Wentworth Prison!

After we tour the grounds, we will travel to Blackness and explore Blackness Castle. This location was used for Fort Williams in the TV series, as the original Fort no longer exists.

Today, we will focus on capturing moody, smudgy and emotional images in our sketchbooks with charcoal and ink.  This imposing fortress not only has a dark history for our favorite guy...these stonewalls have witnessed much sorrow and violence during Scottish history.
