creating abstract figurative art on your ipad

CLASSROOM SOLD OUT!

Hello everyone, I am a mixed media and digital artist, with over 20 years of Photoshop experience.  My exploration of art on the iPad came about quite by happenstance, when I had to give up my art studio for over a year to accommodate family needs.

With only my laptop and iPad for tools, I turned to mobile photography and mobile art, which I can honestly say, has changed my approach to art all together!

Although, I now have my studio back and still love my mixed media art, the iPad keeps calling me to create on it! Why? Well, first of all it’s portable so I take it with me wherever I go! Second, all the FUN of creating with NO clean up! Gotta love that!

Through extensive exploration, I have discovered innovative techniques to creating unique, expressive and modern abstract figurative art!

Now, I'm excited to share those techniques with you!

xo,

Tricia Dewey

Project 1 - Perimeters

In this first project, we will create an abstract figure in Procreate - using a stock image to trace from. We will shade the figure in varying degrees of opacity with black and white and add line work to create interesting patterns that will show through in our image.

Incorporating luscious texture with photos from handmade papers will be a focus in this piece. A perfect first step into layering and exploring several of my favorite apps!

Project 2 - out of the shadows

In our second project, we will be exploring shadows! Yes, everyday shadows - BUT we will be distorting and abstracting them to create fascinating figurative forms!

Using a blend of apps, I will show you how to compose captivating shadow work to create figurative art that is both compelling and rich in color, texture and contrast! You are going to love learning how to capture your own shadows and create with them!

Project 3 - emergence

In our third project, we will create a figure in an amazing app called ArtPose. Once mastered, this app has incredible power and allows you to pose a figure in unlimited positions creating breathtaking 3D effects. We will continue to incorporate other exciting apps to create a haunting and beautiful composition that has both mood and atmosphere!

Lighting also plays a key role in this project and we will explore this using an app called Lenslight. This promises to be a very exciting piece!

bonus project - shadow walker

I was having so much fun creating this class, that I wanted to include a bonus lesson! This one has humble beginnings, again with a simple shadow but I will show you how to really push the limits!

I will be walking you through the process of layering, masking and contorting images to create a highly textural and contemporary piece! You will adore the process and I can't wait to share it with you!

ALL LESSONS COME WITH DETAILED STEP BY STEP DOWNLOADABLE PDF FILES.

***SPECIAL BONUS***

As a registered student to this class, I will also be providing you with some of my high resolution handmade textures that you can use in your own creations! You are going to love playing with these!

What kind of supplies do I need for this workshop?

Supplies for this class include an iPad. Although you can do all of these projects with an iPhone, if you have access to a tablet it will make it much easier to edit photos.

If you have an iPad Pro, the Apple Pencil makes a wonderful optional tool, and you will love using the pencil to create with. For other iPad models, a Bluetooth stylus is also optional, but there are several models on the market that work well.

  • Ipad
  • Stylus (optional)
  • A few Apps (See below)
