Shopping

My first show...

My feet were very mad at me today. Wearing 3-inch heels for 7 hours straight is not on my list of skills anymore...however all the aches and pains of today were worth it! The trunk show was so lovely and so rewarding! This was my first big event for Grace & Ivy and having it at my home made me all the more nervous. Thank goodness for my wonderful new friends, who encouraged me and supported me all the way through! The day was very chilly, with some rain but inside it was nice and cozy. We had a fire burning, mulled cider on the stove, elegant holiday music playing and plenty of decadent sweets to share with our guests! Our little shop was open for business and it wasn't long before we got quite busy. At first, I felt quite hesitant but the butterflies left my stomach as I began to chat with our shoppers. I found a wonderful feeling of connection with them. I got to answer questions, share my story and assist my customers with their selections. It was quite a high! The best compliment was to observe our guests making themselves at home by the fire and chatting with new people. Everyone felt comfortable - they wanted to hang out! I loved it!

So you know me...I had to take several pics...some are blurry...forgive me...but I had to share with you.

Don't you love the snowflakes? We all made a bunch and then incorporated them into the decorations. Great idea Amy!

Jen brought these beautiful turquoise, vintage bottles for the mantel. Love them!

Setting up... Up front you can see Barbara's gorgeous t-shirts and baby wear!

My little table! I had samples out of my brown sugar scrub and the body butters. My new vanilla-ginger body butter was a sure favorite and sold out fast!

(It's so new that it's not even on my Etsy site yet. So if you want one just shoot me an email!)

I got a little obsessed dressing the table. My husband cut me off after I hand drew the tiny stars on the paper trees...

I tried to make the best of my poor old brass chandelier by adorning it with a wreath of greens and our delicate little snowflakes.

All in all, it was a fantastic day. Thank you so much to everyone who came and supported us. We so appreciate it!!

Have a lovely Monday. I'm hoping for a snow day!

xo,

p.s. Also sending out a big thank you to Matt, Jen's husband, who provided us with lovely jazz music into the evening hours!

Handmade Trunk Show: La Fete de Noel

Hello Friends, I'm sorry I haven't posted today but I am super busy ramping up for the trunk show I'm having at my place on Nov. 20th! I'm so excited for it but wow...my studio is becoming a little nutty! My floor is lined with Grace and Ivy products, the kitchen smells like vanilla and ginger from cooking up sugar scrubs and my cat has deemed the empty boxes from my ingredient shipments her new hang out. She keeps popping her head out every time I enter the room. Too cute.

The mess means I'm busy...right?...so I really can't complain.

If you are a local Portlander, please do join us for some champagne, yummy holiday treats and of course, beautiful, handmade goods!

I'm thrilled to be co-hosting this show with my amazing friends and fellow artists, Amy, Barbara & Jen.  Amy creates stunning jewelry with a vintage touch, Barbara screen prints her amazing artwork onto sinfully soft clothing and Jen delivers stunning handcrafted collage greeting cards! Add my organic skin and body care and you've got a plethora of fabulous gift options for all the special people in your life! Giving handmade not only supports the artists in your community but makes you an incredibly generous and creative gift giver! It's a win - win!

Hope to see you there! Ok...back to work.

Inspired by Sibella Court

Hi Friends! Hope you had a decent Monday. Ours was very rainy but a trip to the antique stores with a dear friend made it a perfect day! You may have seen on my other blog, that I posted a curated collection of images by Sibella Court. Well, her book - Etcetera: Creating Beautiful Interiors with the things you love - arrived and I couldn't help but take pictures of it. It's so beautiful!!

Gorgeous Nature Photography by Georgianna Lane

Hi friends...hope your Monday is going well. It's bright and sunny here, after a weekend of rain. The trees look so lovely with the morning sunshine on their leaves. So as you can probably tell...I am still completely enamored with Fall and when I came across these dreamy visions by Seattle photographer, Georgianna Lane, I knew I had to share them with you...

Aren't they gorgeous? She does a whole series entitled "The Poetry of Trees". I think I may have to collect them all...

Please go wander through her Etsy store. It's a true delight. She also authors a lovely blog...here.

Hope these images brought some beauty to your day.

A New Favorite Artist: Geninne D. Zlatkis

Roaming through the lovely realm of Etsy, I happened upon this wonderful artist. I truly adore her work! As many of you know...I have a thing for birds and I just ordered one of her lovely creations. This one to be exact - Meet Bird # 13. Isn't she precious? I was drawn to the soft hues of blue and green. I also love how the little bird looks curious, as if she's trying to read those old labels. So sweet.

Here are some others that caught my eye...needless to say, it was tough to pick one. I think I might have to start a collection.

I really enjoy the graphic nature of her style and the beautiful incorporation of vintage labels, tags and postcards. Go visit her Etsy shop for more gorgeous art! Also, you must visit her amazing blog. So inspiring!! She was also recently a Featured Etsy seller...read her interview here.

What do you think of her work? Are you a bird fan too?

Okay, I'm off to research our next Vicarious Vacation destination: Greece!

Have a lovely Monday. Mine should be rainy but productive! I'm redesigning my studio...finally! I will be posting before and after pics soon! In the meantime, here's my inspiration.

Everything gray

No, I'm not depressed, nor has the sun left us just yet. I have a thing for gray. Last night I dreamed that I was looking thru Flickr finding beautiful gray photography. Strange? Yes, but I'm hardly surprised, since I completely overdosed on my blogland visits yesterday evening. I decided to follow my dream and do a post on all things gray.

Gray is such a soothing color to me. Perhaps that's why I don't get too sad in the winters here. The rain can be incredibly annoying but on the other hand, on gloomy days, my yoga pants, warm cups of tea and good books beckon me to the sofa. Gray can be soft, feminine, elegant but I also find it such a comfy color. Like a hug. It reminds me of sweatshirts, knitted cardigans and cozy scarves. Heavy clouds. Dripping rain on the window. My kitty cat (she's very gray).

I guess I just love it.

Vintage Love

So sorry I haven't been posting. Its been crazy. Today is my birthday, but I've been celebrating all week! I finally have a little quiet moment to share with you some images from the most lovely Portland vintage boutique, Xtabay. My dear friend Amy introduced me to this little gem of a store last Saturday morning. So inspiring and glamorous! Light filled, oh so feminine and utterly enchanting, visiting Xtabay is a must for lovers of vintage attire. Go meet Liz, the delightful store owner and check out her beautiful blog too. For those of you who don't live in Portland, you can also shop Xtabay on Etsy here.

I couldn't resist buying a gorgeous 1940's necklace, I may need to go back and get a dress to go with it!

Hope you have a happy Friday!

In love with Sahlia Michelle

Okay, everyone knows I love sparkly things but these beauties really took my breath away. One of my favorite jewelry designers, Amy Olson introduced me to Sahlia's work and as usual, Amy's impeccable taste has not led me astray.

Her organic aesthetic, unique combination of textures and materials and an undeniable *swoon* factor, makes her work highly desirable. Half untamed and half refined, her designs strike the perfect balance between the good girl and bad girl in all of us.

The fact that she's from Portland is rather fabulous too!

These are from her Bridal collection but I think I would wear them everyday...why not?

Go to her beautiful site to explore her entire collection.

You won't be disappointed.

Vintage treasures...

I wanted to share the treasures I discovered while happily roaming through Sellwood's antique stores. Yes, they are all sparkly...are you surprised?

Not sure what I will do with them yet but I sure had fun taking these pictures.

Don't you love those 1920's shoe clips? So pretty.

Weekend in the Oregon Wine country

We're headed out to Dundee, Oregon for a weekend in the wine country with a bunch of family from out of town.

We decided it was good idea to celebrate Grace's birthday all weekend long.

Why not?

Any excuse to go wine tasting, eat far too much good food and share lots of good times with the fam!

Cheers!

Ivy

p.s. If you are looking for something de-lish and truly unique you must go up to the Anne Amis Vineyard and try their white Pinot noir - 2007 Prisme, Pinot Noir Blanc. It's amazing! Pack a lunch and picnic up there too. The views are to die for.

Keep calm and have a cupcake

Between family coming into town to celebrate Grace's birthday, moving into a new home, trying to figure out how to furnish this new home AND stay in budget, not sleeping and preparing to go out of town, I'm feeling a little exhausted...frayed and frankly, a bit overwhelmed.

Today, my mother literally sent me to my room and told me to take a nap...I think I was being a tad crazy.

A nap was needed.

Upon waking I knew what I must do.

I had to go on a mission to buy cupcakes for Grace's classroom birthday celebration tomorrow.

I grabbed Grace and my mom, led them to the car and took off like a mad woman to Saint Cupcake Deluxe on SE Belmont!

I wasn't coming home until I had two dozen beautiful cupcake creations in my possession.

Well, at least I got one thing on my list done.

For the first time this week I felt a bit better, calmer.

Amongst the chaos, the boxes, the mess...I sat, devoured a chocolate cupcake and smiled.

Hope you are having a productive and happy week so far.

If not...go on a cupcake run.

Ivy

p.s. As a sweet bonus, this newly remodeled Saint Cupcake location is tied to a fabulous home decor and gift store called Noun - a treasure trove of unique vintage decor, accessories and art. Yummy treats for your tummy and your home. Love that combo.

Check out some of these lovelies...

And the charming shop...

Teatime + blogland

I'm a ritualistic creature by nature.

It's comforting to do something the same way each day...even if it's a small thing...like making my cup of tea in the evening. Same cup, same lovely golden honey, same pot. Brewed 5 minutes, exactly. Warm, comforting chamomile tea - Perfect for perusing blogland.

I gotta say, I am consistently overwhelmed by the sheer vastness of this new world. The volume of talent and the endless inspiration. With a hot cuppa tea, I nourish my creative self and thank all those amazing bloggers out there who bring me such joy each evening.

Cheers.

p.s. If you want to buy REALLY good tea and you drink it a lot you must check out Mountain Rose Herbs. They are wonderful and have the most amazing organic teas at outstanding prices. Go check it out.

Organic Baby Care now on Etsy

I finally got our Organic Baby Wash and Lotion onto Etsy.  Very gentle, super moisturizing and ultra relaxing - I love using both and I often steal Grace's set. She doesn't seem to mind especially since she makes it a regular practice to nick off with my shoes, necklaces, bracelets and anything else that takes her fancy that day.

Leave a comment and let me know if you want a sample.

p.s. Working on a lovely organic baby massage oil and baby powder too. I will keep you posted.

Just picked up the latest People Style Watch magazine (I always buy fun magazines for plane trips) and according to their fashionistas, gold cuff bracelets are very en vogue.

So, I went treasure hunting on Etsy to find some hand-made beauties.

I'm in love with # 7 myself. So pretty!

Enjoy.
