D is for Daffodil

This afternoon, my camera and I spent some quality time with some daffodils. They were growing right outside my window, just begging to play.  These seem to be the baby variety. Perfectly dainty and beaming sunshine yellow,  I couldn't resist going out into the muddiness of our back yard and bringing in a tiny bouquet...aren't they sweet?

Hope you are seeing daffodils spring up where you are too! Spring is almost here!

Photo day

Yesterday, I couldn't stop taking photos.  The sunlight flooded in through the windows and cast a dreamy light on my kitchen table, making it a perfect stage for flowers and lace. Outside the white roses glowed and Grace found herself in our magical forest... Enjoy!

As you can tell, I'm having a blast experimenting with textures. They add a whole different feel to the image.

Happy Friday!

Waiting for hydrangeas

Now that the rain appears to have stopped, I am anxiously awaiting my hydrangea to bloom. I have been praying for purple flowers and yesterday my prayers were answered - a neighbor confirmed that our hydrangea arrives in a deep purple! I'm so excited! I plan to take many photos of them and have them constantly in fresh arrangements around the house.

In the meantime, I collected some lovely images from Flickr to tide me over.

A forest beckons...

After three days of being sick with a tummy bug, Grace finally seemed to be feeling better, so I decided some fresh air was in order. We spread out blankets on the lawn, painted our toes, watched the birds and enjoyed the warmth of the sun. Our new home backs to a lovely little forest. It enticed us off our quilt and into its lush green wonderland... A small bridge crosses over a trickling creek. Grace wanted to go across but with freshly painted toes I could hardly throw on my boots! I promised her on another day we would explore further...

Grace felt it necessary to run back into the house get a crayon and paper and draw a "map"  of the "fairy forest" so we wouldn't get lost. Precious.

After our brief stroll through the forest I was drawn to some of the flowers in our yard...

A lovely afternoon with my little girl, surrounded by the beauty of nature - loved it.

Get out and take a walk through a forest near you. The child in you will thank you.

A Flower Love Affair

I'm in love - with a flower. Yes, I know it sounds a little strange but I have a bit of an obsession with Peonies. Mine have not bloomed yet and I'm dying to see them. So when I was casually strolling out the door of my local organic grocer, I was stopped dead in my tracks.

A peony?? This early? I must have looked puzzled because the woman working the florals came up to me and said, "Aren't they lovely?"

I nodded and finally managed to ask what this gorgeous flower was.  A hybrid, she said. A cross between a garden rose and a peony. was love at first sight.

I walked home smiling, three amazing flowers cradled in my arms.

Me, my camera and the roses spent the rest of the afternoon together.

Go buy yourself some flowers - you deserve it.

Hints of Spring

Portland's February is typically a bit of tease.

The sun likes to come out and remind us of its warmth, its soft caress and the way it illuminates everything - trimming the trees in golden light and turning the raindrops to diamonds.

Just for a moment.

Then...without much warning...we are cloaked in clouds once more.

But little hints of Spring have begun to show themselves in our wet soil. Modest crocus' and snowdrops unfurling, while daffodils bloom, looking cheerful after their winter slumber. My favorite, the cherry blossoms, are beginning to burst from their buds...

It may rain a lot here, but the beauty that emerges each Spring is worth every gray day.

I hope you are seeing signs of Spring where you live too. It makes you smile, doesn't it?
